The CMAS Rules of UWH and the CMAS P&O will be going through a major update in the 2024 change cycle.  In order to maintain clear communication through the cycle, we plan on hosting a series of debates on various topics of the rule book and P&O.

The first debate will be about the playing sticks.  Every CMAS UWH tournament has resulted in some player's sticks being disqualified.  This issue does not provide comfort for players or referees.  It is also not good for the promotion of underwater hockey.  In this rules cycle, we would like to update the rule book so that anyone can read the rule about what a legal stick is and have no doubt whether or not their stick is legal.

Speakers

Don Mathews (USA)

Don Mathews is the CMAS UWH Referee Director and will present the rules change process and will be moderating the debate.

Tony Colquhoun (NZL)

Tony Colquhoun is the CMAS UWH Rules Director and will lead the investigative questions.

Tristan Reynard (NZL)

Tristan Reynard is the CMAS UWH Commission Director and will be debater #1. The solution he would like to present is the use of CMAS-approved equipment lists.

Amar Sarmiento (AUS)

Amar Sarmiento is an underwater hockey player, professional coach and product designer. 24 years of involvement in the sport and a past as gear manufacturer gives him a good understanding on what considerations are required to play hockey with high-performing, safe and fair equipment.

Darryl Brambilla (CAN)

Darryl Brambilla is an underwater hockey player, coach and referee. He has been a player since 1996 and was the Chief Referee for CUGA from 2007 to 2016. He has had the honor of refereeing in the finals at the 2006 World Championship. With Darryl's background, he will present on the elements of safe sticks and fair play.
