It offers a unique opportunity to navigate open waters while also testing one's endurance and mental agility. Whether you're an experienced fin swimmer or a newcomer to the sport, underwater orienteering is definitely worth trying out.
An Overview
Underwater orienteering, a discipline of fin swimming, is the oldest form of the sport and takes place in open waters such as dams, lakes, or seas. Competitors use a monofin and adapted diving equipment to navigate a course approximately 1.5 meters below the water surface. The challenge is to swim around the underwater race route as quickly as possible, locate control points, and swim towards the finish line while relying on a compass for navigation. To ensure fair competition, competitors must not emerge above the water surface and must breathe with a breathing device.
