CMAS Participation in Seawilding 2025

The World Confederation of Underwater Activities (CMAS) actively participated in Seawilding 2025, an event that brought together prominent international researchers and specialists in marine conservation and ecosystem restoration, with the goal of promoting sustainable and transformative development in the marine environment.
During the event, the CMAS delegation was led by John Geurts, President of the CMAS Scientific Committee, who delivered a keynote lecture at the Faculty of Biology Auditorium of the University of Barcelona, where he presented the fundamental principles of the Confederation and the main lines of work being developed within its scientific division.
In addition, Coty Zeckua, Secretary of the CMAS Scientific Committee, and Eduardo Centelles, President of FEDAS, took part in the Ocean Career session held at the Port Olímpic in Barcelona. They presented to university students the various training and specialization opportunities offered by CMAS in the fields of scientific and technical diving.
Meanwhile, Maricarmen García Rivas, representative of the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP) and the Mexican Federation of Underwater Activities (FMAS), shared the successful experience of conservation and sustainable management carried out in Cabo Pulmo, as an exemplary case of marine restoration.
The participation of CMAS in Seawilding 2025 reaffirms its commitment to scientific research, environmental education, and international cooperation for the protection and restoration of marine ecosystems.
