The University of Córdoba will create the first international scientific diving center in Spain
The University of Córdoba (UCO) has taken the first formal steps towards the creation of its first International Center, dedicated to offering training in scientific diving.
To this end, it has signed two framework agreements with the World Confederation of Underwater Activities (CMAS) and with the Honduran company Utila Water Sports, with which it begins the implementation of the CMAS-UCO scientific diving center aimed at training, research and dissemination of the marine environment. It would be the first center of these characteristics created in Spain.
The agreement signed by the rector of the University of Córdoba, Manuel Torralbo; The president of the Scientific Committee of the World Confederation of Underwater Activities, Francisco Lacase and Troy Boden, representing the Utila Water Sports Company, laid the foundations for the collaboration of the UCO with both entities in the training of the first scientific divers in Spain and to advance in the homologation of these titles in our country. The professor of Zoology at the University of Córdoba, Alberto Redondo, was also present at the signing of the agreement.
The framework agreements will be specified through specific agreements aimed at the launch of this international scientific diving center CMAS-UCO that would be developed in Córdoba and in Utila (Honduras), where this operational center would be located.
To date, the University of Córdoba offers three scientific diving titles through UCO. This Tuesday the diplomas will be awarded to the students who have completed these degrees and to three students who have obtained the CMAS title for the first time.
