Huali Yao: “Olympic motto “Higher, Faster, Stronger, Together”
At the end of the 2023 season, we had a pleasant surprise from
the Chinese athlete Huali Yao. She achieved two new World Junior Records in 50 apnea with a performance of 15.71 s and in the 100 Immersion with 35.05 s. We had the opportunity to meet her and learn more about her.

I was born on February 19, 2006 in Guangxi, China.
- Club and Coach Name
I am training under coach Tang Weiming in Guangxi FinSwimming Team.
- Tell us something about yourself. How old were you when you started finswimming? What do you like best about finswimming?
I have been training for finswimming since I was 14 years old. Just like the Olympic motto "Higher, Faster, Stronger, Together", finswimming is a pursuit of faster and stronger. Moreover, it is highly enjoyable to watch, and I love it.
- When you went to the competition, could you imagine that you could improve two World Junior Records?
No, I didn't imagine that l could break two world junior records. But before every competition, I always tell myself that I have to do my best.
- What do you feel now, after the end of the competition?
After the competition, I felt thrilled and excited! I am proud of what I have achieved. I would like to thank my parents, my trainer, and everyone who cares about me for their support. Without them, I would not be what I am today.
- Tell us your next plan or your next target in finswimming?
For next year I aim to win the world title during the championships in Serbia and of course, qualify for the World Games, which will be held in 2025, in Chengdu. I firmly believe that they will be unforgettable World Games. Belonging to the host country, I hope to shine and win glory for my country.
