CMAS & UNESCO: Celebrating 25 Years of the 2001 Convention

A worldwide celebration of our shared underwater cultural heritage.

The underwater world connects us across borders, cultures and generations. Through diving, exploration, research and education, we share a responsibility to discover, protect and preserve the cultural heritage that lies beneath our seas, lakes and rivers.

In support of the 25th anniversary of the 2001 UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage, CMAS proudly joined the worldwide celebration of UNESCO Underwater Cultural Heritage Day, together with its member federations around the world.

From different countries and communities, divers, professionals, researchers and underwater enthusiasts came together to celebrate the importance of underwater cultural heritage and to raise awareness of the need to protect these unique and irreplaceable treasures for future generations.

One celebration. Many countries. One shared commitment. 🌍

To commemorate this important milestone, photographs contributed by CMAS member federations were brought together in a special CMAS–UNESCO Underwater Cultural Heritage Day poster.

Each image tells a story. Together, they create a powerful portrait of the global CMAS community and its commitment to the protection, preservation and appreciation of underwater cultural heritage.

This collective poster reflects the international spirit of CMAS and our shared commitment to supporting the principles and objectives of the UNESCO 2001 Convention.
