From June 8th to 24th, the 6th Inter-Semester Summer 2026 Scientific Diving Course will be held through the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), with the endorsement of the Mexican Federation of Underwater Activities and the World Confederation of Underwater Activities.
Course Objective: This course will provide students with the tools to design experiments and follow underwater sampling protocols, refining buoyancy control and navigation techniques. This includes the proper planning and execution of dive plans up to 25 meters deep, as well as an introduction to the collection and management of ecological data gathered using scientific diving protocols. Each participant will also learn techniques for the transport, deployment, search, and retrieval of oceanographic instruments. Finally, first aid and CPR procedures, as well as open water rescue techniques, will be covered. This program strengthens the profile of graduates with undergraduate and graduate degrees in marine sciences by providing applicable tools for conducting underwater experimentation and monitoring activities in accordance with international standards set by the Mexican Federation of Underwater Activities (FMAS) and the World Confederation of Underwater Activities (CMAS).
Competency: Design work plans for underwater experiments and monitoring, using self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (SCUBA) to apply specific protocols and international standards safely and responsibly.
