Instructor Course in Egypt - November 2011technical 09.01.2012
All Egyptian CMAS Instructors of EDLF should be re-educated and examined to get a higher level and confirmation for the recognition of the ministry and the chamber.
Jean Rondia and I flew to Egypt for one week to teach about 90 instructors. At the beginning, there had been disharmony, because the instructors did not understand that they needed better information and training. But the situation was cleared up quickly and the Egyptian instructors had been very happy and satisfied with these courses. They suggested holding such meetings once per year or very second year in future. Jean and I had tried to train the instructors in pedagogic and medical aspects. In both cases they need a lot of training.
The situation in general is very complicated in Egypt. We were informed that the BOD of EDLF is issuing all instructor cards for EDLF and not the Technical Committee in EDLF. The instructors are not happy with this kind and way of certification. The president of EDLF Sameh El Shazly has spoken with the participants of the courses. They are making plans for the future, for a better understanding.
Actually the chamber, an official body like the ministry for recognizing diving instructors and so on, has not the same power as before the revolution and the decisions are taken in the ministry again. This could be a big chance to push EDLF/CMAS instructors forward and to get more recognition in the ministry for EDLF. This will only happen if they are seen to be acting in a correct way and governing their federation and instructors with a firm hand. It has to be stated again that if proofs of wrong doing is presented again, the status of voting rights in the technical committee may be taken from them and a better solution will be implemented.
The Egyptian federation asked and invited us and the TC of CMAS to run such a course again in the spring of 2012 in Shark El Sheikh. This course should concentrate on Instructors with CMAS certification only as a lot of the Instructors hold dual if not triplicate certifications i.e. PADI, TDI etc.
I hope that our mission will move things along in Egypt.
